About the Artist
Grégoire Michonze (1902–1982) was a Russian-French painter who described his work as "Surreal naturalism", also known as a landscape and figurative artist. His paintings often depicted groups of people—families, villagers, peasants, and children—and he is renowned as one of the Jewish members of L'École de Paris ("School of Paris").
Michonze immigrated to Paris in 1922, where he studied at École des Beaux-Arts. During this period, he became acquainted with the surrealist circle and the members of L'École de Paris ("School of Paris"), such as Marc Chagall, Isaac Frenkel, and Amedeo Modigliani, with whom he became associated as a member of the movement.
Michonze exhibited in numerous exhibitions, including the Salon des Surindépendants throughout 1934-1936. His works are held in prominent art collections, including The Musée d'art moderne de Troyes Collection, France.
