About the Artist
Nurit David (born 1952) is a multidisciplinary artist widely known for her painting and sculptural painting structures. Her work has been featured in numerous group exhibitions in Israel and abroad, as well as solo exhibitions at esteemed institutions such as The Israel Museum, Tel Aviv Museum of Art, Herzliya Museum of Contemporary Art, Haifa Museum of Art, Bar-David Museum of Art and Judaica, and the Uri & Rami Nehoshtan Museum. Her works are held in a variety of private and public collections, including the Tel Aviv Museum of Art’s Israel Art Collection.
David's early work was associated with the "Want of Matter" style, characterized by raw and simple materials and visuality (as recognized by the renowned curator Sarah Breitberg-Semel). In the late 1990s, she shifted to figurative art and has since created a diverse body of work that includes landscapes, depictions of the human body, urban symbols, many influences from the Far East, deconstruction of urban symbols, and the incorporation of design, fashion, and architecture influences.
She studied at the Art Teachers’ Training College in Ramat-Hasharon, where she also taught from 1986 to 2007. From 2002 to 2006, she was a painting instructor at Bezalel Academy's Art Department in Jerusalem. Among her awards and recognitions, she received the Sandberg Award in 1993 and the Rapaport Award for Senior Artist in 2006.
