About the Artist

Pesach Slabosky (1947–2019) was an artist, writer, and musician. Born in Detroit, Michigan, Slabosky studied art at Columbia University in New York and at the Brooklyn Museum Art School.

His works are characterized by distinctive brushstrokes, layered materiality, and the use of various objects as surfaces for his paintings. In addition to his artistic practice, he wrote about art, curated exhibitions, and lectured in the Department of Art at the Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design, Jerusalem.

Slabosky's works blended painting with sculptural objects and were known to portray a range of themes, including still life and abstract paintings, often incorporating text in his works. He was influenced by figurative and conceptual art in the United States, as well as by his colleague and friend, artist Moshe Kupferman, whom he encountered upon moving to Israel in 1978.

His works have been exhibited in many institutions, including the Israel Museum and the Tel Aviv Museum of Art, and are included in numerous private and public art collections.
