About the Artist

Drora Dominey (born 1950) is a multidisciplinary artist and senior lecturer in the art department at Bezalel Academy of Art and Design, Jerusalem. Raised in Kibbutz Merhavia, she studied art in Milwaukee, USA, and Cheltenham, London, and earned her MFA from Central Saint Martins in London.

Active since the early 1980s, Dominey is renowned as one of the few female Israeli sculptors pioneering critical examinations of kibbutz life and challenging Israeli male myths. Her work blends plastic, conceptual, and formalist approaches, exploring cultural discourse, biography, and identity with unconventional materials and imagery drawn from her surroundings.

Drora Dominey has received numerous awards, including the America-Israel Cultural Foundation Art Award, the Discount Bank Award for Israeli Artists (presented by the Tel Aviv Museum of Art), the Minister of Education Award for Visual Artists, the 2018 Lifetime Achievement Award in Visual Arts from the Ministry of Culture, and the 2020 Rapaport Award for a senior artist, culminating in a significant solo exhibition at the Tel Aviv Museum of Art. Her work has been featured in exhibitions across museums and galleries in Israel, Germany, and the United States.

In recent decades, she has evolved her artistic engagement with the local environment, particularly its oriental roots. Her sculptures bear traces of fading socialist ideals and suppressed forms of violence.
