About the Artist
Yaara Zach (b. 1984) is a multidisciplinary artist known for integrating readymade and industrial materials in elaborated installations, infusing them with a physical presence that explores the relation between the object and the physical body. Her works promote dialogues between mediums and artistic disciplines, offering alternative functions for objects, the meanings and iconographies they carry.
The featured photography works by Zach, distinctive within her broader practice, are part of an extensive project titled "The First Year" (2023), which explores the fragility of breathing—the first and last act of life.
Zach transforms the human form with blue latex coverings that obscure identity and gender, creating a fusion of seemingly organic shapes. The plastic-clad figures, adorned with tubes and extensions, challenge the boundaries between humans and other life forms, as well as between the familiar and the uncanny.
Among her awards and professional recognitions, Zach received the 2022 Ann and Ari Rosenblatt Prize for Visual Art, followed by her solo exhibition "The Sun Sets Twice" at The Artists’ House, Tel Aviv (2024). Her work has been featured in numerous solo and group exhibitions at Israeli and international venues, including The Israel Museum, Jerusalem; Tel Aviv Museum of Art; the Moscow International Biennale for Young Art; the Berardo Collection Museum, Lisbon; and Artport, Tel Aviv.
Yaara Zach's works are included in various private and public art collections, such as the Tel Aviv Museum of Art. She holds a BFA and an MFA from the Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design, and also lectures and mentors BFA students at the School of Multidisciplinary Art at Shenkar, Israel.
